The Quieter, Northern End of Myrtle Beach

Myrtle Beach is considered one of the United States' top vacation destinations on the east coast. Every year, for decades, explosive growth has been noted as new hotels and resorts, attractions, entertainment complexes, golf courses, shopping centers, outlet malls, and live music theatres keep visitors flocking to this beautiful seaside area.

The Grand Strand area has also been ranked the number one favorite coastal destination by tour operators across the nation and BYWAYS magazine.

The Grand Strand area is also the second fastest growing metropolitan area in projected annual population and employment growth through 2005.

Money Magazine also this area in the Top 20 of America's Best Places To Retire.

Little River and NMB are on the northern end of the Grand Strand, and are considered a bit quieter and more family-oriented than other areas farther south.

From examining alligators to sifting through sales merchandise, you'll find plenty to keep you occupied on vacation. This area offers an impressive array of attractions to inform, entertain, and delight you. They're the kind of amusements that impress visitors from all walks of life. The whole family will enjoy Alligator Adventure, an alligator park and reptile research facility at Barefoot Landing. If alligators and crocodiles do not impress you, you might be interested in the frogs, snakes, birds, tortoises, and lizards which are also on display.

Restaurant choices are plenty here as well -- you'll find everything from Oriental cuisine to Italian fare to classic American and, of course, fresh seafood.

WHAT TO DO:  In addition to the ocean, you'll want to take advantage of the area's lovely state parks or tranquil marinas. As far as theater is concerned, you can choose from a number of entertainment venues, including the Alabama Theater and Celebrity Theatre, Legends in Concert, and House of Blues. There's also Dixie Stampede, the Carolina Opry, the Palace, and Medieval Times Dinner & Tournament. If your favorite pasttime is shopping, there's a collection of malls, retail outlet stores, and specialty shops along the Grand Strand.
